Kimono Grace Chrysanthemum & Flowing Water – Ivory

A timeless piece inspired by the beauty and meaning of traditional Japanese kimono.

This shawl is made from vintage kimono fabric on a cream ground, painted with vermilion, gold and deep purple chrysanthemums, cloud shapes filled with seigaiha waves, and a stream of light blue flowing water. Maple leaves and bamboo grass between the flowers make it feel like a Japanese landscape captured on cloth.

The meaning of chrysanthemum and flowing water
The chrysanthemum (kiku) has long been treasured as a symbol of longevity, health and dignity. Flowing water stands for purity and the washing away of misfortune. The seigaiha wave pattern inside the clouds is an auspicious design wishing that peaceful days will continue like waves, without end.

With its wishes for long life and a peaceful home, it is a fitting gift for a mother or an elder, and for birthdays and life milestones.

Vintage kimono × satin
Real vintage kimono fabric is carefully sewn together with a smooth, glossy ivory satin (polyester) into one continuous rectangle. Wear it as a hijab, a shawl or a scarf. The colorful chrysanthemum fabric frames the face beautifully, while the satin adds fluid drape and a soft sheen.

One of a kind
Vintage kimono fabric is limited, and the placement of the pattern is different on every kimono. Every Kimono Grace piece is one of a kind and cannot be reproduced.

About the materials and vintage condition
The kimono fabric is silk from a real vintage kimono; as it is vintage, we cannot confirm its exact fiber composition. The satin part is polyester. Slight variations, small imperfections and signs of age may be present; these are part of the history and character of the original kimono.

Care (the kimono fabric is silk)
The kimono fabric of this item is vintage silk. Silk naturally has antibacterial and deodorizing properties, so after wearing it is enough to air it in a shaded, well-ventilated place, without washing.

  • Dyed, hand-painted and embroidered fabric: The kimono fabric may be dyed, hand-painted or embroidered, and as it is vintage its exact composition is unknown. Water or strong rubbing may cause color loss, color transfer or damage to the threads, so please take special care. We do not recommend washing at home.
  • Cleaning: Avoid washing in water, which can cause shrinkage, color loss and color transfer. We recommend dry cleaning (when soiled, or at the end of the season, is enough). Please send the whole piece, including the polyester satin part. For stains, please consult a specialist as soon as possible.
  • Sweat & perfume: Sweat, rain, perfume or hairspray touching the fabric directly may cause stains or color bleeding.
  • Light & storage: Silk is sensitive to light (UV), so avoid direct sunlight and store it in a dark, dry place, wrapped in a breathable cloth.
  • Ironing: Use a low temperature and always use a pressing cloth. Do not apply steam directly.
