BOTAN — Peony

A one-of-a-kind kimono hijab created from authentic vintage Japanese kimono.

Set against a soft pale-blue background, elegant peonies in shades of red and white create a graceful and refined composition.

In Japanese culture, the peony (Botan) has long been admired as one of the most magnificent flowers and is traditionally associated with prosperity, good fortune, beauty, and abundance.

The delicate blue background brings a sense of serenity, while the richly colored peonies add an elegant presence without overwhelming the design.

WATASI JAPAN gives new life to this beautiful vintage kimono by transforming it into a contemporary piece that can be worn as a hijab or shawl.

A piece of Japanese heritage, created for a new story.

Every Kimono Has Its Own Story.

A Story Woven in Kimono

A one-of-a-kind hijab created from authentic vintage Japanese kimono.

Each piece preserves a fragment of Japan’s textile heritage — its colors, patterns, craftsmanship, and the stories woven into the original kimono — and gives it new life as a contemporary hijab.

WATASI JAPAN carefully selects and unstitched vintage kimono, examining the patterns, colors, and condition of the fabric before transforming it into a new creation.

The vintage kimono fabric is combined with a coordinating plain fabric to create an elegant long scarf that can be styled beautifully as either a hijab or shawl.

Because we work with authentic vintage kimono, the exact same piece can never be recreated.

Every piece is one of a kind.

The Meaning Behind the Motifs

Japanese kimono motifs are more than decoration.

Flowers, plants, geometric patterns, and seasonal designs have traditionally carried wishes for happiness, prosperity, longevity, growth, harmony, and the well-being of loved ones.

Through each WATASI JAPAN piece, we hope you can enjoy not only the beauty of Japanese kimono, but also the meaning and story carried within its patterns.

About Vintage Kimono

The kimono used in WATASI JAPAN creations are authentic vintage garments that have been cherished over many years.

Because of their age and history, subtle variations in texture, color, or small traces of previous use may occasionally be present.

We consider these characteristics part of the individuality and story of vintage kimono rather than simply imperfections.

We invite you to enjoy the unique beauty that only an authentic vintage textile can offer.
